Description: This project is a research-based virtual reconstruction inspired by the exhibition “Food: Subsistence, Communication, Ritual” (Sofia City Art Gallery, 2021). It examines the imagery of food in Bulgarian art from the 20th and 21st centuries. The project does not reproduce the original exhibition in full; instead, it explores how the digital environment can influence artworks, create new forms of access, and serve as a tool for cultural memory.
Explore the attitudes toward food across the decades.
The reconstruction draws on several main sources: the exhibition catalogue published by SCAG (2021), archival photographs, media coverage, and interviews from the same period. The virtual space functions as an extended reading and viewing environment in which the artworks can be experienced outside their original museum display context. The exhibition can be explored in a standard view with additional information, or in full-screen mode to experience the digital structure of the space more fully.
